High Blood Pressure In Pregnancy May Affect Childs Reasoning Skills

Researchers have come up with new evidence that high blood pressure during pregnancy can have a detrimental effect on a child’s thinking ability during it’s life. The findings were based on a study group comprising three hundred and ninety eight men whose mothers blood pressure was noted during their pregnancy. The men were then subject to a number of different tests, including language skills and arithmetic, as well as tests to measure their response to visual and aural stimuli.

It was found that those men whose mothers had experienced high blood pressure during the term of their pregrancy  recorded poorer results than those whose mothers were not affected by increased levels of blood pressure. It was also noted that the most significant impact appeared to be in relation to the maths and arithmetic based tests.
